Getting Started

There are a number of simple steps to follow:

  1. You need to register as self-employed with HMRC. This is a simple form filling exercise, or it can be done by telephone. Do call us if you need any help.
  2. You need to keep all your expense receipts so we suggest our 'shoebox' approach. Quite simply you find a shoebox and just put all of your business receipts inside.
  3. Open a separate bank or building society account.
  4. Continue to keep all business related bills, receipts, utility bills, bank and credit card statements and send to DSL at the end of each accounting period.
