Robert Sherwood, who had qualified as a Chartered Accountant many years ago, joined the Direct Selling industry back in 1993 first as a distributor. 4 years later he was running an organisation of 4,000 downline based throughought Europe, but also realised that one of the major challenges in the industry had never been properly addressed.

Whilst every other aspect of building a successful Direct Selling business was catered for within corporate or distributor led trainings, there was no specialist help or advice for preparing accounts and income tax returns, both of which are real headaches to most Direct Sellers. In 1997 Rob approached the Direct Selling Association, got their full support and launched DSL…the rest as they say is history.

In the last 10 years DSL has helped over 2000 distributors to concentrate their time on building businesses leaving DSL to deal with the taxman, and has developed new products to make life so much easier for their clients. These achievements have been fully recognised by the DSA who have awarded DSL 3 times for their contribution to the industry.

One particular figure which stands out is the total amount of tax refunds they have reclaimed for distributors in their early years. Using their knowledge of available expense claims and tax regulations applicable to Direct Selling, DSL has so far recovered over £6 Million, money to be reinvested to promote further growth.
